About Me

My name is Carrie Cohen.  I am a Psychotherapist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  I have a thriving private practice seeing individuals and couples for psychotherapy both in office and remotely, as well as a program I run coaching new and seasoned therapists.

My approach is warm and engaging, seeking to connect with each of my clients in a way that makes them feel comfortable and understood.  My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, meaning that the therapy is utilized to understand not only the symptoms presented, but also the roots of the symptoms, leading to longer term change.  My objective is to not only help my clients resolve the immediate challenge for which assistance is sought, but to also help with developing the tools necessary to carry the skills forward and apply them to other challenges they may face in the future.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1996 and earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University in 1999.  I completed a two year post graduate certificate program in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy through the Contemporary Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis in Sarasota in 2008.  Since that time, I have been actively involved in ongoing psychodynamic psychotherapy training for individuals and couples through the International Psychotherapy Institute in Chevy Chase, MD.  Additionally, I have advanced training in trauma, development, and gender and sexuality.

I have over 20 years of clinical experience in a variety of areas.  I have worked in both the public and private sectors as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and program administrator.  Because of my range of experience, I’ve been invited as a presenter on various topics including couples work, psychodynamic theory and application, trauma, as well as other topics.  I started my private practice in 2002 and currently, I run a thriving private practice with an ongoing waitlist.

My specialties include couples therapy, college age counseling, and psychodynamic psychotherapy for those interested in deeper growth and development.  Additionally, I coach therapists through the process of developing and building a successful private practice.
